This album contains most of the earlier material written between 1998 and 2005. ‘The Book of the Shattered Bonds’ is actually a trilogy, and this album represents its first two parts, - Dark Water and Shattered Bonds.

It’s third part ‘The Forgotten Songs’ is planned to be released as a separate album later in 2008.

‘The Book of the Shattered Bonds’ is an eclectic mixture of neoclassic, ethereal, darkwave and rock music, though with an apparent inclination towards ‘neoclassic’ sound. It is especially evident about the first ‘chapter’ of the album - Dark Water.

Despite all the difference between the ‘chapters’ and songs, it still sounds quite organic, even emphasizing the album’s integrity, also showing some clues on the planned sequel.

This music is saturated with some kind of transcedental cold, and yet grief of very humane nature; these components seem to oppose each other during the whole album, - yet it is up to the listeners to decide, what matters more…

1. I could be hopelessly wrong but I think in the case of former communist countries where music was driven underground the artistic ethos is deeper, and rigid scene-adherence is of less importance, leading to musicians working together for the best interests of their music, allowing a wider set of influences and confluences to intermingle, seeing dark sounds tingle enticingly. Lacklustre Mirror certainly bundle together noir elements form Goth to Indie with neo-classical sound sofa modern, filmic sensitivity which makes them accessible to all, and very enigmatic, as you admire the openness, yet can’t quite place it at the same time because it isn’t what we’re used to. That’s what makes it so exciting…

2. Холодные темные волны музыки медленно погружают вас в состояние полусна-полуяви. Красивые фортепьянные аккорды мягко убаюкивают сознание, а негромкие голоса словно нашептывают в уши что-то успокаивающее. В звуках то чудится что-то китайское, то западноевропейское, а то и нечто, ассоциируемое с русской классикой. Но… все это эфемерно, призрачно, ускользаемо от пристального внимания. Все доносится словно сквозь некую пелену, как будто ваш разум спит и воспринимает происходящее сквозь сон.

3. Превалирующий английский весьма удачно разбавлен русским языком (композиция “Тёмная вода” выше всяких похвал и является, пожалуй, самой сильной гранью альбома). Собственная лирика коллектива дополнена и приукрашена стихами русского поэта “серебряного века” Александра Блока (композиция “Голос из хора”), внесшего нетленную классику в аристократичность LM. Приятно ласкает слух и чередование усталого мученического мужского голоса с сильным атмосферным женским вокалом. Скорее всего, размеренной идиллии альбома “The book of the shattered bonds” способно нанести лёгкий ущерб лишь доминирующее англоязычие композиций, смотрящихся у русских коллективов как нечто наигранное и неестественное. Возможно, именно композиция “Темная вода” в исполнении Marea Internum является идеалом стилистического, звукового, голосового, текстового и, главное, языкового симбиоза творческих усилий участников Lacklustre Mirror, благодаря которому музыка московского коллектива имеет полное право именоваться “бесподобной”.
