Decembered
It was that immense thaw which lasted for about a month in December 2004 through most of the January 2005…
‘…And That Was Just A Thaw…’ (2005) |
Back in 2004 Lacklustre Mirror was on a brink of dissolution, and Children of the Gun got caught in a stagnation loop as well, their future was all too uncertain. That’s when an idea of a new project came to my mind. Around that time I’d become a big fan of raison d’etre project, especially its ‘Empty Hollow Unfolds’ (2000), which had me entranced completely. I decided to try working in a similar way.
In December 2004 and January 2005 I had an extremely long New Year vacations, those allowed me to get into the music completely. Moscow had been wallowing in that grand thaw which made the weather all too spring-like - however it was clear that it was just a thaw, nothing more.
And, personally, I experienced something like that inside myself over the whole 2004 - a dead still winter within me looked as it was going to end, but that appeared to be nothing but an illusion… That was how the name ‘Decembered’ did appear.
The first six tracks by Decembered (actually seven, with one eventually trashed) had been composed and mixed over a very short time - two weeks and a half, or so, and the process was as maniacal as it could ever be. Initially I tried to keep anonymous, making sure Decembered would not be associated with Lacklustre Mirror in any way, but in some quite short period of time everyone interested were aware who’s behind the new project. ‘…And that was just a Thaw…’, a debut album, had been put online for free download, and so had been two others.
‘A Treatise on Eschatology’ (2006) |
The next album - ‘A Treatise on Eschatology’ - took more than a year to get finished. Along with that me and a couple of friends - Bruma and Mantichore - joined forces and recorded ‘Rex Tremendae’, the only track released ‘officially’ before 2007, when now defunct web label ‘Netaudio’ (R.I.P.) grabbed and re-released it. ‘A Treatise…’ unfortunately became a 90% solo work again, with Bruma singing on ‘Summon’ (and it was great). I also had been working on a ‘Missa pro Defunctis’ along, but eventually decided to drop this. Some of the composed material is being used for ‘Lacklustre Mirror’ now.
‘Methuselah Sands: The Martian Chronicle’ (2007) |
Early in 2007 Decembered was disbanded, and I thought I wasn’t going to do anything for it… Well, until the April, when ‘Methuselah Sands’, a new space/martian-themed album emerged suddenly, again over the very short time.
Later that year the aforementioned Netaudio suddenly picked ‘A Treatise’ to ‘release’ it over the Web. However, Netaudio is gone now, and so are all of their archives, due to the unclear and suspicious reasons. So it is hosted at the project’s homepage again now.
Also a deal was struck with a doom-death metal band ‘The Morningside’ to work on a split CD. However, no progress had been reached over the year, so the endeavour had been cancelled.
In February 2008 Decembered debuted live, along with Lacklustre Mirror performing live for the first time in years. It was the first and so far the last live performance of Decembered. In the end of November the project yielded yet another full-time album ‘The Moonwind’, available here for free downloads.
